Benchmark Horizon: Building Something Better in Boulder County

When a family loses their home to a wildfire, rebuilding is never just a construction project. It's personal. Benchmark Horizon began that way, as a Marshall Fire rebuild in Boulder County, and it became one of the projects we're most proud of in our portfolio.

The home is 7,257 square feet with five bedrooms and six bathrooms, but the numbers don't quite capture what made this project meaningful. From the start, the family wanted a home that would last, one that was designed for the way they actually live, built with materials that could stand up to Colorado, and engineered to perform at the highest level for decades to come.

The architecture reflects that intent at every turn. The exterior combines stucco and natural stone with clean, modern lines and an entry that feels welcoming without being showy. Expansive windows on the rear elevation face out toward sweeping mountain views, pulling the landscape into the daily experience of the home. Multiple covered decks and outdoor living spaces extend the footprint of the home beyond its walls, which matters when you're sitting on a site with that kind of scenery.

Inside, generous ceiling heights and an open, efficient floor plan create light-filled living spaces that feel connected to the outdoors throughout the day. Every design decision was made with the family in mind, from the flow between shared spaces to the details in the finishes.

The home also achieves Net Zero performance, which was a priority from the very beginning of the design process. Rather than treating sustainability as an add-on, we integrated it into the building envelope, mechanical systems, and energy production strategy from day one. The result is a home that performs as well as it looks.

Sopris Homes managed Benchmark Horizon from design through construction, handling every detail along the way. It's the kind of full-scope involvement that lets us hold a higher standard at every stage, and on a project like this one, that standard mattered deeply.

We're grateful to the family for trusting us with this rebuild. Seeing Benchmark Horizon finished and lived in is a reminder of why we do this work.
